"It is a common misconception that magical libraries are a terribly dangerous sort of place, in which an unsuspecting undergraduate may quickly find themselves devoured by an errant copy of Belmallion's tragically flawed treatise upon the nature of hunger, or set upon by a wild pack of Halier's light romances. It is years since we've had any significant literary accident in the main body of the library. Now the restricted section on the other hand.../

The Bath House is a series of rooms containing hot pools, cold pools, steam rooms, shower rooms, smaller individual rooms with baths in and so on. The rooms are supplied with hot water that never runs out although no one seems to know exactly where it is heated. There is one room entirely filled with bottles of bubble-bath and another with fluffy towels that can have only achieved that level of fluffiness using magic. One room contains a large pool that stretches out into the distance, at least …

Unlike that suggested by the title, this is not the tower at the top of which is a large clock, instead this is a tower entirely filled with clocks. Why there is a tower entirely filled with clocks is a mystery. The ticking sound is somewhat overwhelming for the unprepared. Big ones, small ones, all styles and shapes. Many of the clocks are the standard round face with internal clockwork but some are more ornate or involve a variety of working mechanisms. Each one is labelled – the name of a cou…

Although the University is made of stone and incredibly drafty (as all such large old buildings are mandated to be by University Edict no. 364/2b), it isn't actually freezing cold and no one has ever got frostbite. Additionally, there has always been plenty of hot water for the laundry, bath house and so on. There must be heat coming from somewhere but none of the students seem to know from where... but there are an awful lot of rooms in the basement that haven't been explored yet and are really…

The Janitor's closet is found where all janitor's closets usually are. Under the stairs. In this case the closet is under the stairs that lead up towards the alchemy labs. In general the alchemy labs need the most maintenance due to the high level of explosions that occur there and so being close (but not too close) is an advantage.

The kitchens are usually located close to the dining hall for easy serving. They are housed in high vaulted cellars with ornate pillars holding up the stone ceilings. There are many fireplaces and ovens located around the kitchens with various areas taking on different responsibilities. Over here is where the bread is made and over there where the meat is hung and smoked and the roasting ovens. Stews are here while grain and fresh fruit are kept over there.
You put your dirty clothes into the wicker baskets in your room and they reappear a day or two later clean, pressed and folded on the shelf next to the door.

If you make a habit of running through particularly muddy cross-country routes or taking part in messy activites, and you want your stuff back both quickly and without a snarky note berating you then sometimes it’s a good idea to occasionally include a little gift in the basket as a thank you.

Finding the academic administration office is fairly easy - it’s something every student needs to do multiple times during their first year as they sort out their stipends, problems with room allocation, malfunctions or breakages (one memorable occurrence being when a large toad hopped into the offices claiming to be the student occupant of room L34 and complaining that the fumes from the alchemy lab had been accidentally rerouted through his chimney).

The front quad is a large open space surrounded on all sides by the University's tall buildings. A number of passageways lead off from the main quad deeper into the University and despite the variable nature of University geography the Quad is usually a good place to start when finding your way around. In the centre of the Quad is a perfect square of grass that is kept ever green while surrounding it is a wide paved path. The path is well used and everyone knows better than to step on the grass.…
